i've lived here my entire life. Then you're missing out and I truely feel sorry for you. i was exposed to football just like all of you, it just never caught on with me. and thanks for the sympathy, but it's not needed.

my comment was not in reference to the fact that he likes football, rather the ridiculous "if you dont like the steelers you aint shit" comment. i could care less that he likes football, but i dont feel like im really missing out on anything in my life because i dont like the steelers. typical yinzer quote. You use the word yinzer like it's some sort of insult. Unlike you, I love this city. It's home. I was born and raised here, and I'll wear my yinzer badge with pride. and as much pride that you have for the city, i probably have a similiar amount of disdain. just because you were born some place doesnt mean you have to have pride for it, or hate it for that matter.

Andrew youre missing the point that nobody cares about your ridicule. You can call everyone as many derogatory names as you want, but youre an asshole that nobody pays attention to, so what does it matter?

You can call everyone as many derogatory names as you want, but youre an asshole that nobody pays attention to, so what does it matter? yet everyone, yourself included, continue to respond. im just trying to give a different perspective than the tunnel vision that yinzers suffer from. they think pittsburgh is the greatest thing since sliced bread, and i think theres plenty of other places that have much more to offer. the world does not revolve around pittsburgh. pittsburgh suffers from a severe napoleon complex.

Yes, thank god youve shown everyone what is wrong with them. not whats "wrong" with them, just that theres more to life than pittsburgh. i wish people are as passionate about things that really mattered as they are about the steelers. i think you can see how far things like nationalism have gotten this country.

Right, but youre just assuming that nobody has anything going on but football. You dont know that, so why are you acting like you do.
You took an impression of people from one day and made a blanket statement about an entire population of people. It seems you are good at that though.

I was born and raised here, and I'll wear my yinzer badge with pride. outside of pittsburgh, yinzer is indeed a derogatory term. it's the same as calling someone from alabama a redneck. they wear the redneck badge with pride, but everyone outside of that society laughs at them. it really isn't. you know why? because the vast majority of people outside of pittsburgh have no idea what a yinzer is. its not a derogatory term elsewhere because its not even a term elsewhere. just like some people from northeast PA refer to themselves at Haynas and the rest of the world has no idea what the fuck that is. so, in short, you're wrong, but trying really hard, i guess.

"what is all this Yinz stuff"-drunk guy from North Carolina puzzled by Yinz.
He later came to the conclusion that it was indeed all about "The yinzers vs the yallzers"

The only time I have ever heard the word "yinzer" outside of Pittsburgh is from other Pittsburghers.
For instance, we have this Steelers bar around the corner from our house that we've seen a number of the games from this season. If you didn't know any better, you would think that you were in Pittsburgh: There's Steelers/Pens/Bucs memorabilia all over the place, the bartenders generally wear Black and Gold, and most of the crowd that goes there wears the same. It's kinda like Pittsburgh methadone. However, as I pointed out to Kara, you can tell it's not really Pittsburgh because by the third quarter of the AFC championship there wasn't any drunken yinzers trying to start a chant of "here we goo stiiillers here we go.
It's not really a positive or negative word unless you have a positive or negative view of the imagery it provokes.
