A co-worked let me take his fender home for a few days to try it out.. i might be buying it off of him.
The neck, not the fret board, has some build up. It comes off easily with my finger nail, but I just wanted to know what I can safely use to clean it up nice.

dude, the thing has mojo. don't clean it!
for real, though...a static-free dust cloth works wonders. i don't like using solutions on my guitars (when i do clean them...which i hardly ever do). but just a good wiping down with a cloth will do it.
what kind of Fender is it?

I'm thinking about the one Motown Bass player who never changed his bass strings or washed them.

If the neck is finished, you can use just about anything. I usually just use a citrus-based window cleaner. Why citrus? I don't know. I just like to think that the oils might help. It also smells nice.
