maybe someone can explain this band to me too. i get it, you took springsteen type classic rock and combined it with punk. only with more octaves and simplistic pop punk riffs. and nick 13 type reverb vocals. i guess i just dont get the appeal.

for some reason, i just dont like springsteen. i've heard the "right" songs, but it just doesnt do much for me. i guess i'll just never be able to get over the dancing in the dark song/video.
now tom petty, completely different story. love that guy.

I already see where this is going to go. And I'll probably come off as a dick, but I don't particularly care. And I'm not going to bother trying to push the bands "appeal"
You don't get the appeal, therefore you have to question why people like the band because for some reason the fact that people listen to something that isn't Coldplay disturbs you. You couldn't find a band with less appeal? Is this band furthering a negative message, such as violence against Jews, objectifying women or promoting the use of crystal meth? Or all of the above? Nah. I don't think so, at least.
Moving along then... Does this band have any impact on your day to day life? Does their existence offend you somehow? Are you forced to listen to them on a regular basis? Doubtful.
I hate the music of Coldplay, but I don't bother starting threads about it, because threads like that only end up being masturbatory, ego driven conversations repeating the same opinions in different ways. "My musical tastes (read: opinions on music) are superior because of X", X signifying another opinion as a basis for argument.
I believe we've already had this argument a few times on this board (though to take a page out of someone else's book, I don't care to sift through pages of threads and cite examples) and it always ends the same. "I'm just stating my opinion", "I'm just joking, don't be so serious" and so on and so forth.
Can you really find nothing of more substance to talk about?

Does this band have any impact on your day to day life? Yes they do, they sometimes make my drive into work that much more enjoyable. Also the show they are playing at Smalls will be just a little more awesome since Good Old War is playing as well now.

Springstein rules.. Andrew, I don't usually give a damn who likes what.. everyone is entitled to their own thing when it comes to musical likes and dislikes.. But, now I'm gonna argue with you.. WTF you talkin' bout Willis??

I love Springsteen.
I enjoy Gaslight, but I do not like their new record at all. I just can't get into it. However, their first LP was brilliant and their EP was nearly flawless.

The LP has more punk to it, but you can see how they got to their new album w/ the EP -- so its no guarantee you'll dig it. The new album, The 59 Sound has this odd effect on Brian's vocals that bugs me. It takes some getting used to, even diehard fans have mentioned this, but I still don't dig the album.

Can you really find nothing of more substance to talk about? i honestly asked what the appeal was because i didnt get it, it wasn't a loaded question. melba actually answered my question by explaining why he liked springsteen so much. and i can definitely understand his explanation. and clearly you have my music taste down to a "T" via the coldplay statement. that's actually the only band i listen to. ever. (on a more serious note, i'm sure my musical tastes are more eclectic than yours. i'm pretty sure i can get into alot of the music you "punk rock" kids are into, but i doubt most of you can say the same.) and just so we're clear, i could give a fuck less about you or your opinion.

WTF you talkin' bout Willis?? i definitely do not hate the guy, i just cant really get into it. to me, alot of springsteen stuff comes accross as him trying to hard. like, i knew he grew up blue collar, but once you get to a certain point i feel like it's kind of a sham to be singing about that kind of stuff. i know that kind of stuff is included in the americana style, so it's kind of unfair to blame him for it, but i dont know. i suppose that's just the way i feel about it. it's kind of like william elliot whitmore. INCREDIBLE voice. but every song is about growing corn, shooting cowboys, etc. it just gets too fake after awhile. and as far as petty goes, i just feel like he's had a consistently more solid body of work.
