sez the guy that, by his admission, only goes to national shows and has no idea what is going on locally If any of these local bands WERE as good as D4, they wouldn't be just local bands anymore.

Which vocalist? There are 2. As for what to listen to... I rank them like this... I think... Midwestern Songs of the Americas (1998) Situationist Comedy (2002) Versus God (2000) This Shit Is Genius (1999) Civil War (2008) Their live album is comedic genius! Correction: 3 singers. Everyone sings main vocals on different songs except the drummer, so far as I know.

Hahaha, I don't care what you think. Everyone has their own opinions. I was just saying that to get a rise.

Honestly, as much as I used to love the Souls I feel like they're getting a bit old, uninteresting, and washed up. Not all that pumped to see them.
However, I've been a huge D4 fan for years, and I feel like they're still in full stride after their latest release. I got hooked on them at first through one of their B-sides off of This Shit is Genius called "Open and Shut". It has an amazing tempo change leading into the chorus that hooks me every time. Mostly though, I've always resonated with their extremely pro-labor, pro-drug, pro-choice, drunken, working class, atheist lyrics. They are one of the only bands that can pull off politics and religion without being preachy and keeping a sense of humor, and also pull off the working class thing and sound sincere and really mean it since they actually are working class. They don't take themselves seriously -- they hardly ever play shows at home let alone tour, put out a record every 6 years or so, and have fun at shows, interact with the crowd amazingly, and get naked. It's also catchy as hell, even if they aren't breaking new ground. They are effortless masters of their little melodic pop punk niche and I love it.
Also -- seeing them at Gooskis was fucking incredible.

Andrew not to be a dick, but about 2 months ago didn't you writein a post that the only reason you play music is to try to make it into a living and be on a big record label? Or at least that's your ultimate goal. Which confuses me now for all the current hatred towards bands on big labels.
