I would think that this is exactly the kind of show everyone would want to come out to.. Its a ton of locals from all different genres, coming together to do variations of songs everyone will know and be able to sing along to. Its an opportunity to check out what some of these locals can do with music we all know..
With all the bitching and moaning on this board about what people like and don't like and why people don't go out to local only shows as opposed to national shows.. Something like this, kind of gives the best of both worlds and really is a showcase of scene unity.
Besides, since its my birthday... I'd think that anyone that wants to get on my good side would be there for at least a little part of it somewhere along the line... ;D

And instrument smashing... don't forget instrument smashing and blowing up drum kits.. how "punk" of them.. well before the term punk was coined. Back then it was the "mods" and the "rockers". The Who brought them together and everything after was changed. FYI - the ultimate expression of scene unity.. the guys from Country Music Gas Station cancelled thier show they had scheduled at Kopecs for this night so they can be at Howlers for this.. even though they are not on the bill.

that is awesome, Jo. point 'em out to me on Saturday (i've never met them) so i can thank them for coming out like that. re: guitar smashing - let's just say i've been involved in at least two at Howler's. witnessed the destruction of a gin-u-wine Les Paul. we'll leave it up to the other bands to do it this time (this is where you post the infamous guitar guts picture, Jo...)

Joe, we had to bail. The roads were shit; Ross hasn't salted yet and McKnight is all snow covered, can't even see any asphalt. It's just not safe.
We were both excited to come out and see you again. And obviously hear some songs from the Who. But we do want to hang out again...we'll figure something out.

A great big Thanks to all of you.. all the bands rocked... all the people that came out - Geez there were a lot of you... thanks (although my old feet and knees are not so thankful today) and for the impromptu happy birthday serande.. thanks.
Special Thanks to Tommy & Joe for organizing this and performing the feat of herding cats in keeping this running smoothly. It was an amazing show, the different takes on Who (and a few not Who) songs was very cool.
I was running my ass off behind the bar and a band by band breakdown I'm not able to do. But just to hit some of the hightlights...
Devlish Merry's verson of Happy Jack.. very cool, I can't get it out of my head.
Joe Melba, you guys were great. I actually walked out from behind the bar a few bars into your Magic Bus and stayed back there to watch your set. Ya'll Nailed it!
The Four Roses with their sort of Country Rockabilly style.. I liked it.
Tommy & Joe - The Ameoba Knievel Crew.. Interesting... and soooo much fun.
And to Dave Wheeler's band for the "blow the roof off" ending with We Won't Get Fooled Again... Fuckin' Awesome!!
There were a couple I missed because I was so busy out front but on the whole this was just a ton of fun.

thanks again for having us, Jo. not saying this to be all "aw shucks" or anything, but it wouldn't have been the show it was if we'd held this anywhere else but Howler's. good vibes all around, and Sean did a fantastic job running sound and helping out with the band changes. melba - The Huh rocked. i do hope that you guys keep that lineup in consideration for the future. Rob does a great Moon. i dug your windmills. i think you were the only one all night to actually do that. colleen - didn't mean to put so much pressure on ya for "My Generation" but you really did nail that bass part. my dad (who got me into The Who as a kid) was applauding it. and every other band i saw was great, for sure. i missed Four Roses since i was running the door though (bummer). dug Moonlight Motel and Devilish Mary's folky takes on Who songs. great way to start the show. and Wheeler ended it with a bang. i guess they only had one practice with the keyboardist. amazing. but yeah, thanks Jo, melba and Colleen, and katie and urban and sirens and whoever else on here came out. hope ya got home safe and sound.

I'm sorry I missed this whole gig. Double booked myself. Colleen, I'm totally going to make you play the bass solo the next time we jam. :-)
