I was actually more interested in the lens and flash then anything, but it is fun to shoot film sometimes, I may get back to you, things are a little rough with the holidays right now...

yeah, I knew the body was worth next to nothing. I figured the lens/flash to be the motivator. If I end up selling it I'll keep this thread updated or PM you.

FYI.. this lens will NOT work with my dSLR; at least mine. I contacted the manufacture to get the lens "rechipped" and they just offered me a trade in. IIRC, it throws a "Error 99" on the LCD.

yeah let me know what happens, what DSLR are you using? I am really thinking about making the jump, and almost sold my s5 this week to buy an XT but I don't want to get rid of my S5, I would like to have both a DSLR and my S5 to complement each other. Some of the shots I have taken with it are here www.jpgmag.com/people/mullhawkI just started learning a few months ago, and am still learning every time I go out and shoot, soon I hope to move up to a DSLR, as soon as the pocketbook, and the wife will allow it...

I have the Digital Rebel right now. I plan on moving to the 40d because I want to bigger LCD and I think the live view will help at shows. I've had the money saved up for awhile for it but I'm always telling myself "It's not the camera, its the photographer". Selling this film stuff going to start my fund for a f1.2 50mm lens and a new flash, even though I'm anti flash.
I always recommend that people spend the money on lens than a body anyhow. The Digital Rebel is a great entry point. I think nikon makes a pretty nice entry level camera too, but do you research on the lenses with nikon. Depending on what camera body you have you have to buy certain lenses to get auto focus. So far the only thing I liked on a nikon better than my rebel was the sound it makes when your taking a picture. With Canon, the lenses work pretty much across the board. I'm unsure about the high end "professional" models (5d) .. but I think thats still true.
My pics are in my sig.

I agree that it is not the hardware, but I always also say that all hardware has limitations, and I have seen better pics coming from teh 40d then the entry level rebels. Same as going from the S5 to the entry level rebels... Although I havn't used one I am not impressed by nikons entry level dslrs, seems to me that you get more bang for your buck out of the canons, and like you said better lens compatibility. The new 50d is fucking sweet I would love to get my hands on one of those, but I can't afford shit like that right now, I will probably shoot for an XSi first.

you can search through flickr by camera type (although its just easily changeable meta data).. I think you would be surprised of the quality of the photographs of the Rebels. a LOT of people use them. Hell, people are doing some incredible things with point 'n shoots as well.
I'm mostly going to the 40d for the live view and the bigger LCD. I would like to start making a little scratch off my photography before I make this jump, but taking pictures of live shows is my hobby and I'm not really interested in doing weddings or portraits.. so my options are kind of limited. I've been thinking of starting to do some posed shots n at, but we'll see.
I wish Canon would adopt SD a little more widely than CF. Plus SD is dirt cheap.

they did. the XS, the XSi, and the 1D MarkIII all use SD, also the XSi has a 3" LCD, and I am pretty sure the live view, and can be had quite a bit cheaper then the 40D, if that is all you are upgrading for...

There was a specific reason for the 40d, but now I forget. Maybe the ISO settings, since I do a LOT of low light stuff (shows). Or the bigger form factor, battery grips are expensive. The "better" RAW modes (sRAW, IIRC).
A quick search at amazon says the XSi is 200 less than the 40d. Thats 3/4 of my 1.2 lens! And I get SD. Well, a battery grip for this thing will bring it up close to the same price of the 40d.
I'll do some more searching today.
